I am so excited to be launching this site and a new little side project. If you haven’t been over to the “About” page yet, let me introduce myself.
My name is Whitney. I own a small bar & taproom south of Denver where myself and my partner are dedicated to not only providing a welcoming environment for the neighborhood, but also to planning unique events and entertainment for the entire area.
I’ve also worked in marketing for a few years, and prior to that, I had various roles in higher education. And before that, I tried making something out of my music business degree by managing and booking bands, which I discovered I did not enjoy.
So, starting a life as a business owner has been a pretty big leap for me. I love bars, craft beer, good cocktails, but we mostly had no idea what we were doing when this opportunity came to us. While there has certainly been a learning curve, I found that I really do enjoy bartending, discovering new beers, and dreaming up new cocktails or putting a new twist on a classic.
One of my other great loves is reading. And I read just about everything. It’s something I miss having more time for. Before owning a business, I was CRUSHING books. Now, I still read every day, but usually for shorter periods of time before falling asleep or where I have small windows of free time.
I thought maybe there could be a way to blend these two big parts of my life, and that is this project. What can you expect? Book recommendations, drink recipes, product recommendations for snuggling up with a good or for your home bar, and even some fun book and beverage pairings.
And here’s the thing – I always try to keep it simple. I’m only a year into this bar owner thing, and there are still liqueurs and spirits that I see in a recipe and have no idea what they are. That can be really intimidating, especially for someone with a simple home bar who just wants to make a good drink for themselves or a friend. Simple recipes and tasty bevvies is what I’m about. The biggest thing I’ve learned in the last year is that if you can follow a recipe, you can make a great cocktail with common ingredients you might already have or can find easily.
Can’t wait to see what comes of this! Open to questions, concerns, suggestions, etc.
Until next time…
